Hero Spotlight: Eddie Wayne Brown

Today, we honor the life and sacrifice of Warrant Officer Eddie Wayne Brown, a brave U.S. Army Soldier who gave his life in service to our country on this day in 1968 during the Vietnam War. He was just 20 years old.

A resident of Jamestown, Kentucky, WO Brown served with unwavering commitment as a Helicopter Pilot (MOS 062B) with C Troop, 3rd Squadron, 17th Cavalry, 1st Aviation Brigade, U.S. Army Vietnam. 

At the time of his death, WO Brown was deployed in the Hau Nghia Province of South Vietnam. His body was recovered, and his memory has been preserved with honor ever since.

Beginning his tour in Vietnam on Aug. 31, 1968, WO Brown’s service exemplified the courage and devotion of a Soldier who upheld the values of honor, courage, and commitment to the very end.

WO Brown’s service and sacrifice are permanently memorialized on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, at Panel W39, Line 74, and here at the Kentucky Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

Interviewed by Ed Burtner, former mayor of Winchester, KY and United States Marine Corps Veteran, along with with 82d Airborne Desert Storm Veteran Dee Birkes, Cecil reflected on his own service experience and share insightful information about the Kentucky Vietnam Veterans Memorial (KVVM) located in Frankfort, KY.

Hero Spotlight: Charles Frederick Swope

Today, we honor the life and sacrifice of Captain Charles Frederick Swope, a brave U.S. Air Force Airman who gave his life in service to our country on this day in 1966 during the Vietnam War. He was just 31 years old.

A resident of Newport, Kentucky, Capt. Swope served with unwavering commitment as a Tactical Aircraft Pilot (MOS 1115) with 21st Tactical Air Support Squadron, 6253rd Combat Support Group, 14th Air Commando Wing, 7th Air Force. 

At the time of his death, Capt. Swope was deployed in the Quang Tri Province of South Vietnam. His body was recovered, and his memory has been preserved with honor ever since.

Beginning his tour in Vietnam on Aug. 23, 1966, Capt. Swope’s service exemplified the courage and devotion of an Airman who upheld the values of honor, courage, and commitment to the very end.

Capt. Swope’s service and sacrifice are permanently memorialized on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, at Panel 12E, Line 49, and here at the Kentucky Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

Hero Spotlight: Carl Dalton Cooper

Today, we honor the life and sacrifice of Specialist Four Carl Dalton Cooper, a brave U.S. Army Soldier who gave his life in service to our country on this day in 1970 during the Vietnam War. He was just 21 years old.

A resident of Hodgenville, Kentucky, SP4 Cooper served with unwavering commitment as an Ammunition Specialist (MOS 55B20) with 576th Ordnance Company, 3rd Ordnance Battalion, 29th General Support Group, Army Support Command Saigon, 1st Logistical Command, United States Army Vietnam. 

At the time of his death, SP4 Cooper was deployed in the Bien Hoa Province of South Vietnam. His body was recovered, and his memory has been preserved with honor ever since.

Beginning his tour in Vietnam on Feb. 20, 1970, SP4 Cooper’s service exemplified the courage and devotion of a Soldier who upheld the values of honor, courage, and commitment to the very end.

SP4 Cooper’s service and sacrifice are permanently memorialized on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, at Panel W6, Line 34, and here at the Kentucky Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

Hero Spotlight: Randell Gene Trail

Today, we honor the life and sacrifice of Lance Corporal Randell Gene Trail, a brave U.S. Marine who gave his life in service to our country on this day in 1965 during the Vietnam War. He was just 21 years old.

A resident of Owensboro, Kentucky, Lance Corporal Trail served with unwavering commitment as a Rifleman (MOS 0311) with India Company, 3rd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Amphibious Force. 

At the time of his death, Lance Corporal Trail was deployed in the Thua Thien Province of South Vietnam. His body was recovered, and his memory has been preserved with honor ever since.

Though his tour’s exact start date is unrecorded, Lance Corporal Trail’s service exemplified the courage and devotion of a Marine who upheld the values of honor, courage, and commitment to the very end.

Lance Corporal Trail’s service and sacrifice are permanently memorialized on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, at Panel 2E, Line 136, and here at the Kentucky Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
