Bring KVVM to Your Classroom

KVVM is pleased to offer six lesson plans designed to engage students with the history, design and meaning behind the memorial.
Ideal for middle and high school students, each lesson focuses on a different subject:

– Civics/Government
KVVM Lesson Plans are available for review and download. As you and your students learn together, keep in mind that we’re always open for field trips!

Students will learn the fundamental principles behind how a sundial tells time and then apply that knowledge to create and test their own sundial prototypes — plus more!
Students will learn about the gnomon and its function in a sundial, and then identify and measure various types of angles related to shadow casting in their own environment — plus more!


Students will identify and analyze symbolic elements in the memorial design, and then apply design principles to conceptualize and sketch their own memorial — plus more!
Students will research a Kentucky Vietnam veteran who is listed on the memorial (ideally from their own county or nearby) and present their findings clearly and respectfully to an audience — plus more!


Students will learn various ways citizens can engage in civic duties related to remembrance and public service, and then develop a plan for local community engagement related to veterans’ causes or historical preservation — plus more!
